JONESBORO, Arkansas (10/18/09) – The Mean Green soccer team earned a season-best fourth straight victory by defeating the Arkansas State Red Wolves 2-0 Sunday afternoon. For the second time in three days, both Kendall Juett and Julie Lackey scored goals to help keep North Texas alone in first place in the Sun Belt Conference.
“I’m very proud of my team getting both wins on the road this weekend against two solid teams,” North Texas head coach John Hedlund said. “Kendall and Julie came through again for us today and got the goals when we needed them and the defense once again played well.”
North Texas scored their first goal of the game in the 13th minute when, just as on Friday, Juett recorded an assist on goal-scoring shot from Lackey after a cross. The Mean Green would tack on their second goal of the afternoon after halftime in the 55th minute when Juett nailed in a shot from the right side of the box that hit the crossbar and went in.
Sophomore Kelsey Perlman (4 shots, 3 SOG) and Michelle Young (3 shots) also had a solid game for the Mean Green.
Junior goalkeeper Mandy Hall picked up another shutout victory, her eighth of the season.
North Texas will be back in action on the road next Friday when they travel to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.
