The right seed in next month’s Conference USA Soccer Championship can make the all the difference, and that’s exactly what North Texas and Tulsa will battle for when NT makes the trip up I-35 on Friday night.
With the regular season winding down, North Texas and Tulsa are tied for second place in the C-USA West Division standings with 10 points, so the winner of Friday’s game would own the potential seeding tie-breaker.
The West’s top three seeds receive a bye into the tournament’s quarterfinals, but with only the top five seeds in each division making the trip to the league’s showdown, only three points separate the Mean Green from missing the tournament all-together.
North Texas head coach John Hedlund told the Denton Record-Chronicle this week how he thinks his offense has come around at the right time to make Friday night interesting.
“This is a big game against Tulsa, because I don’t know if anyone is going to catch Colorado College,” said Hedlund. “We are scoring goals and got seven over the weekend, which is really huge for us. We got our offense going and put some of our opportunities in the net. We take off as a team when we are scoring goals.”
