Mean Green Soccer Returns Home For The Stretch Run

DENTON, Texas (10/15/08) The Mean Green soccer team begins a stretch of five consecutive home games to close out the regular season beginning this Friday when they host the UALR Trojans at 7 p.m., followed by Arkansas State Sunday at 1 p.m.

North Texas (10-2-1, 4-1-1) comes back home after a successful and tiring road trip in which they beat Troy 2-1 in overtime and tied South Alabama 3-3 in double overtime.

The Mean Green have won four straight at home dating back to Sept. 12 and have outscored their opponents 10-3 in those games.

John Hedlund’s team is 8-1 all-time against UALR, with the last meeting being the Trojans only win, 3-1 in Little Rock last season. Meanwhile North Texas is a perfect 11-0 all-time against Arkansas State and are coming off a 2-1 win last season.

Kelsey Perlman continues to get better with each game under her belt.

The freshman sensation forward from Allen High School scored two more goals in the game against South Alabama, bringing her team-leading season total to eight. She also leads the team with 19 points.

Junior defender Kelli Lunsford got back in the scoring column this past weekend with both goals in the 2-1 overtime win at troy. Lunsford’s goals both came on penalty kicks, the second of which came in overtime and was reminiscent of the game-winner she had against Oklahoma earlier this season.

The Trojans (6-8-1, 2-4) come to North Texas having dropped three of their past four games and are fighting to make one of the final spots for the conference tournament. Grace Rich is leading the team with nine goals and four assists and goalie Jane Picarelli already has 93 saves on the season.

Arkansas State (4-7-1, 1-3-1) has struggled mightily of late, going 1-9-1 in their last 11 games. The Red Wolves are led by Kara Nitti, who has six goals followed by Sofia Turesson’s five.
