DENTON, Tex. (10/15/07) Following its sixth straight victory and 12-2 start to the season the North Texas women’s soccer team has vaulted its way into the Top 10 of the Central Region rankings. The Mean Green checks in at No. 9 in the Soccer Buzz Central Region rankings this week after a weekend sweep of Troy and South Alabama.
The ranking is the highest for North Texas in the region since the end of the 2000 season when the Mean Green finished at No. 6. North Texas has never been nationally ranked, but has received votes.
Its highest regional ranking came in 1998 when North Texas got as high as No. 5 in the region.
Of the 15 teams that are ranked, North Texas has the most wins of any with 12.
The Mean Green is closing in on the school record for wins in a single season as well. North Texas plays six more regular season games and still has the Sun Belt Conference Tournament to play. The school record for wins in a single season is 16, set in the 2004 and 2005 season.
North Texas is back in action on Friday to begin a four-game road trip with a visit to Arkansas State. North Texas is perfect in league play at 6-0 for the third straight season.
