DENTON (10/15/06) - The driving rain and wind did nothing to slow the North Texas women’s soccer team down as they dispatched of Arkansas-Little Rock 4-1 for its eighth consecutive win. The Mean Green (12-2-2, 8-0) is unbeaten in 11 straight games and 22 straight games at home.
North Texas is also 8-0 for the second straight year in Sun Belt Conference play, matching the best conference start in school history.
Brittany Cleveland started things off for the Mean Green in the 6th minute of play with a goal off a loose ball in the Trojans box.
Junior Heather Hutyra notched her 12th goal of the season in the 28th minute on a turnover by Arkansas-Little Rock (4-12, 2-6) to make it 2-0 North Texas.
Veronica Ayala scored her first goal of the year minutes later to extend the North Texas lead to 3-0 heading into the break.
As the rain and wind increased, both teams became bogged down in the second half. Arkansas-Little Rock scored its only goal of the game in the 57th minute when Early Villegas beat Kandice Ellis.
North Texas added its final goal of the game in the 84th minute of play when Kelli Lunsford scored her fourth of the season off a feed from Jamie Yates.
North Texas returns to action on Friday, October 20 at home against Western Kentucky.
