DENTON (10/11/02) - The North Texas (8-4, 2-2) soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Western Kentucky 3-2 at the Mean Green Soccer Complex to end their 13 game home winning streak and 24 game unbeaten streak at home. The Lady Toppers (8-3, 3-0), who trailed 2-0 at the half, rallied for three second half goals including the game winner scored by Kim Warren with just nine seconds remaining in the game.
"Tonight we had the lead at the break and then had a couple of defensive breakdowns in the second half," said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. "We just didn't keep the intensity up in the second half".
The Mean Green struck first when junior forward Marilyn Marin scored her 15th goal of the season to extend her point streak to nine straight games. Senior Lindsay Bibb followed Marin's goal with her second of the year in the 35th minute on a loose ball in the box to give the Mean Green a 2-0 led.
The Lady Toppers came out in the second half and cut the North Texas lead to 2-1 on Betsy Duncan's goal in the 57th minute. Western Kentucky tied the game up on Kim Warren's first of two goals on the night on a header from the right side in the 80th minute.
Goalkeeper Erin Johnson made six saves but picked up her fourth loss of the season. The Mean Green have now lost three straight games for the first time since 1996 dropped their first home game since 1999.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday afternoon against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
