DENVER, Colo. (10/10/04)- The North Texas women’s soccer team had its four-game winning streak snapped as the Denver Pioneers defeated the Mean Green in a Sun Belt Conference showdown 3-0. The loss drops North Texas into a tie with Denver in the Sun Belt standings at 2-1.
Denver (4-8-1, 2-1) started the scoring off in the 25th minute as Taryn Hemmings scored to make it 1-0 Pioneers.
The goal by Hemmings also ended North Texas (9-4, 2-1) goalkeeper Briana Buchanan’s scoreless streak at 358 minutes without allowing a goal.
The Pioneers struck quickly following their first goal with another goal from Jenna Billingsley just one minute later to make it 2-0.
The Pioneers added an insurance goal in the 46th minute of play from Diana Brunkhardt to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Mean Green had nine shots on goal but Pioneers goalkeeper Danielle Wiley made six saves for the shutout. Buchanan, who made fives saves on the day, took only her second loss of the year.
North Texas returns home to continue Sun Belt conference play on Friday, October 15 against Western Kentucky.
