North Texas Shuts Down South Alabama For Its Sixth Straight Win

MOBILE, Ala. (10/8/06) The North Texas women’s soccer team leaned on its veterans in a 1-0 win over South Alabama to win its sixth straight game. Junior forward Heather Hutyra scored the only goal of the game and goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made two saves to notch her fifth shutout of the season.


North Texas (10-2-2, 6-0) is now unbeaten in nine straight games and remains perfect in Sun Belt Conference play and atop the standings.


It a tight defensive contest, the Mean Green scored the only goal of the contest in the 32nd minute of play. Hutyra took a pass from Brittany Cleveland and beat South Alabama (4-10, 2-4) goalkeeper Kelsie Langford for her ninth goal of the season.


The Mean Green outshot the Jaguars 6-4 in the first half but was outshot in the game 10-9. Hutyra led all players with six shots in the match.


North Texas returns home to begin a four-game homestand starting on Friday, October 13 against Arkansas State.
