Carrier Scores Twice In North Texas 2-0 Victory Over Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. (10/8/04) Two second half goals from senior midfielder Alyssa Carrier powered the North Texas women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Northern Colorado. The win is the fourth straight for the Mean Green (9-3, 2-0) and its third consecutive win on the road.

“This was a nice way for us to start out the road trip,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “We wanted the girls to adjust to the altitude and they were able to do that. I think have a lot of confidence heading into the game with Denver on Sunday”.

The game was scoreless after the first half as North Texas out shot the Bears 10-9. The Mean Green gained control of the game when Carrier scored her first goal in the 62nd minute. Carrier was able to score on a header off a cross from sophomore forward Kristen Campbell.

Carrier tallied her second goal of the game in the 74th minute off another assist from Campbell to give North Texas a 2-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made that lead stand up as she came up with five saves and collected her fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of her career.

Buchanan also extended her scoreless streak to a career-high 333 minutes of action without allowing a goal.

North Texas will now gear up for a showdown with the defending Sun Belt Conference champion Denver Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
