BOCA RATON, Fla. (10/7/07) It was a trio of true freshman that powered the North Texas (10-2, 4-0) women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic to earn its fourth straight win. Amanda Hall made seven saves while Janaye Woods scored the only goal of the match off an assist from Danielle Herron.
“This is a great win for us especially on the road in such a tough environment,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund.
The only goal of the match came early in the sixth minute of play. Herron passed the ball over to Woods on the left side and her shot found the back of the net after deflecting off of several players. North Texas held the 1-0 lead heading into the second half.
Both teams have quality scoring chances in the second half of play. The Mean Green had a shot ring off the crossbar from Jessie Wolfe in the 73rd minute of play and Woods had a breakaway in the 81st minute, only to be stopped by FAU goalkeeper Jessica Badders.
The Owls best chance came three minutes later when Janeke Simpkins broke in alone on the left side only to be denied by Hall.
FAU (5-5-1, 2-2) outshot North Texas 13-8 in the game. The win keeps North Texas perfect in SBC play at 4-0.
North Texas returns home for two games this week starting on October 12 against Troy at 7 p.m.
