TROY, Ala. (10/6/06) The North Texas women’s soccer team continues to spread the wealth and its winning streak with a 2-1 win over the Troy Trojans.
Sophomore Amanda Johnson scored her first career-goal as the Mean Green (9-2-2, 5-0) captured its fifth straight win and extended its unbeaten streak to eight straight games.
The win keeps North Texas atop the standings in the Sun Belt Conference.
Johnson’s goal came early in the 6th minute of play to give the Mean Green a 1-0 lead. North Texas outshot the Trojans 8-1 in the first half and carried the 1-0 lead into the second half.
Senior Jamie Yates put the game away for the Mean Green with a goal in the 82nd minute of play to make it 2-0. Troy (2-9-1, 1-4) scored its only goal of the game as time expired spoiling the shutout.
The Mean Green outshot Troy 17-3 in the game and goalkeeper Kandice Ellis needed to make only two saves in the game.
North Texas closes out its road trip on Sunday, October 8 at South Alabama.
