DENTON – North Texas goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine achieved a milestone in her career, and she was rewarded with Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors after the Mean Green’s 2-0 start in conference play.

She picked up two shutouts in the Mean Green’s two conference wins this past weekend against the top two scoring offenses in Conference USA. In the 1-0 win against Louisiana Tech, she recorded her sixth shutout of the season and the 23rd of her career, surpassing Mandy Hall as the North Texas leader in shutouts.

“I’m happy for Jackie and it’s well deserved,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “Having seven shutouts already with the tough schedule we have played is a credit to how well Jackie has played in goal this season.”

With her three saves and victory in goal against the Lady Techsters, Kerestine also moved into sole possession of second place in career saves and career wins. With the win against Southern Miss, she now has for her career, 223 saves, 39 wins and 24 shutouts.

This season, Kerestine has recorded seven shutouts in the team’s eight wins. The seven shutouts is a conference best.

This is the second time in her career that the junior has received player of the week honors. It is the third weekly honor for the Mean Green this season.

North Texas takes to the road for five straight games away from the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
