Mean Green Soccer Begins Four-Game Homestand

DENTON, Texas (9/28/12) - The Mean Green soccer team is set to welcome in the South Alabama Jaguars on Friday before a Sunday game against the Trojans.

North Texas (5-3-1) has lost just once to USA, while winning all nine contests against Troy. The Mean Green has outscored the Trojans 35-1 in games played at home or at neutral sites.

North Texas begins a four-game home stand, the longest streak of home games since 2008 when the Mean Green played seven straight games to end the season, including the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

The Mean Green also had a stretch of six straight home games to begin that season, winning five games in both homestands. The game on Friday against South Alabama will be the first since SMU ended NT's 17-game home unbeaten streak that lasted nearly two years. North Texas also holds the highest home attendance average among SBC schools.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine picked up her fourth full shutout of the season after a 2-0 win over the Ragin' Cajuns. It was her first clean sheet since a scoreless tie against Baylor on Sept. 7. By this time last year, Kerestine only had two shutouts before going on a run of seven shutouts in the final 10 games -- all Sun Belt Conference games that included the SBC tournament.

Junior defender Kelsey Hodges has scored a goal in seven of the 11 games thus far this season. She is tied for the lead in the Sun Belt Conference in goals scored despite being considered a defender. The Denton, Texas native is two goals away from tying her career high in goals scored with nine, a number that she set in her freshman year in 2010. She is also a recipient of an SBC Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of August 14, 2012.

Freshman midfielder Karla Pineda has four assists on the season, including an assist in each of the last two games. Her four helpers on the season leads North Texas, and is now tied for fourth among SBC players in that category.

Senior midfielder Carly McDowell seems to have a knack for scoring at the most critical times. The Plano, Texas native scored both goals in the 2-0 win over the Ragin' Cajuns and scored the game-winning goal with time winding down in double-overtime against Sam Houston State. She also assisted on the game-winner by Michelle Young in the 2-1 win over Houston. McDowell also recorded a point in back-to-back games -- with the last point streak taking place from Oct. 1-3, 2010, when she scored three goals in two games against ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette.
