DENTON (9/27/06) - The North Texas soccer and volleyball teams return home for a weekend of Sun Belt games, beginning Friday at 7 pm at the Mean Green Village. The soccer team plays at the North Texas Soccer Field, while the volleyball squad hosts its matches at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
After a perfect road trip to begin conference play, North Texas soccer returns home for two games with Florida International and Florida Atlantic. The Mean Green has an 18-game unbeaten streak at home heading into the weekend. NT plays FIU on Friday night and faces Florida Atlantic for the first time on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at the North Texas Soccer Field.
Juett had her first career hat trick in the win over Louisiana-Monroe. She is just the second North Texas freshman to record a hat trick since the 2003 season. Juett is only the fifth freshman in North Texas history to record a hat trick. Juett has 17 points on the year, and could challenge for the second most points by a freshman at North Texas, which is 32 set by April Bonilla in 1996. The North Texas record for points in a season by a freshman is 54, set by Marilyn Marin in 2000.
Texas is 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play for the seventh straight season. The Mean Green has never lost one of its first two conference games since joining the league in 2000. North Texas has started 3-0 in Sun Belt play three times since joining the league and has had 4-0 starts twice.
North Texas has been ranked in the Central Region for five weeks now, the longest run in school history. The Mean Green were ranked in the Central Region for the final four weeks of the 1999 season. North Texas started the year out in the preseason rankings and has not left them ever since.
Mean Green volleyball enters its second week of Sun Belt play after splitting a weekend trip through Arkansas. North Texas avenged last year’s conference tournament loss to Arkansas-Little Rock after dropping the conference opener to Arkansas State. The Mean Green has won 10 of its last 14 matches.
North Texas is back at home this week with matches versus two of the top teams in the Sun Belt, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. The Hilltoppers posted sweeps over South Alabama and Troy over the weekend, while the Blue Raiders defeated the same two teams as well but went five games with South Alabama. The Hilltoppers have the most wins of any team in conference this year and are the only team to have received votes for the national top-25 poll.
Brooke Engel broke her career high for snigle-match aces with eight against UALR. It was the second time this season she has broken that mark, and did so this time in only three games. Her 49 aces on the season already place her fourth in school history for aces in a single season.
