JONESBORO, ARKANSAS (9/27/02) - The North Texas (7-1, 1-0) soccer team shutout the Arkansas State Indians 2-0 in their Sun Belt Conference opener. The Mean Green have now won three straight games and pitched their third shutout on the season.
"Give Arkansas State credit because they made it hard on us all night," said Head Coach John Hedlund. "I'm just happy to start the conference season with a win".
Junior forward Marilyn Marin started the scoring for the Mean Green with her conference leading 10th goal of the season on a free kick from 30 yards out. Marin also extended her point streak to five games. Marin's goal was the only score in the first half and then freshman Michelle Partain notched her fourth goal of the season in the second half to give the Mean Green a 2-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Erin Johnson was fabulous in net again making four saves to pitch the shutout and her fourth win of the year.
