DENTON, Texas – The North Texas soccer team opens conference play on Friday, Sept. 26 with a match-up against Louisiana Tech at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

The game will be a showdown between the conference’s top defense (North Texas) and the nation’s No. 1-ranked scoring offense. The Lady Techsters offense has gotten off to a hot start with 44 goals, leading them to the best record entering league play at 8-1-1. North Texas owns the lowest goals against average in the conference, allowing just six goals in nine goals. The Mean Green is also tied with the Lady Techsters for the most shutouts with five.

The Mean Green will face another offensive challenge on Sunday when it plays Southern Miss at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles are second in the conference in goals scored with 24. A big part of the Mean Green’s offensive output has come from forward Karla Pineda. The junior leads the team with four goals, including three off of set pieces. She scored the team’s lone goal last weekend off a free kick that curled around the wall.

On the defensive side, goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine is on the verge of a few records. With her combined 12 saves against Gonzaga and TCU, Kerestine moved into a tie for second place in the North Texas record book with 216 career saves. Jackie is tied with Kandice Ellis for saves and also for career wins (37, 2nd). She is also tied with Mandy Hall for the career shutout record at North Texas.
