Mean Green Soccer Heads To Louisiana Tech
North Texas Looking To Improve On Thursday's Defensive Win
RUSTON, LA — After opening conference play with a 1-0 victory at Marshall Thursday night, the Mean Green soccer team heads to Louisiana Tech for a Sunday 1 p.m. matchup.
The match can be streamed on cusa.tv.
In its last four matches, North Texas (5-2-1, 1-0 C-USA) owns 3-0-1 record with the one tie coming against Indiana on Sept. 10. The Lady Techsters (8-2-2, 1-1 C-USA) had an impressive 7-1-2 non-conference record and rolled past UT-San Antonio in the Conference USA opener but struggled to get their offense going against Rice on Thursday and lost 2-0.
Against Marshall, the Mean Green put up a season low 6 shot attempts and only put one on goal but a stout performance from goalkeeper Brooke Bradley and the North Texas defense prevented the Thundering Herd from finding the back of the net.
Senior midfielder Katie Gernsbacher scored her first career Mean Green goal in the match when she fired a shot over the goalie’s head from outside the box. Gernsbacher is the 10th different North Texas player to score this season, which is one more than they had all of last year.
Furthermore, Gernsbacher is part of a North Texas senior class that improved its career conference record to 26-3-2 following the win over Marshall.
Louisiana Tech is led by its junior forward Mylene Roy-Ouellet. She has scored eight goals on the year, which are twice as many as the next most on the team.
The Mean Green are 4-1-0 all-time versus the Lady Techsters.
