Pina Named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week

DENTON (9/23/03)-- Junior forward Melinda Pina has been named the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Player of the Week for her performance in leading North Texas to victories over Drury and Nicholls State. Pina's stellar weekend vaulted her to the top as she now leads the nation with 27 points and is tied for the most goals in the nation at 12. Pina is also second in the nation with 3.38 points per game.

Pina collected two straight hat tricks as she scored six goals and had 15 points in two games. Pina also notched a new career-high with 12 goals on the season and has tied her career-high with 27 points. She also had a career-high eight shots on goal in the win over Nicholls State. Pina is the first player North Texas player to record back-to-back hat tricks since 1996. The hat trick’s give Pina three for her career.

In the victory over Drury Pina scored three straight goals and had two assists to give her a career-high eight points in a single game and followed that up with another three goal performance against Nicholls State

For her career Pina now has 32 goals and 81 points for her career which place her fifth all-time at North Texas both categories.
