Perfect Start Comes To An End For North Texas With 1-0 Loss To OU

NORMAN, Okla. (9/21/07) The perfect start to the season for the North Texas (6-1) women’s soccer team came to an end as Oklahoma (4-2-1) knocked off the Mean Green 1-0 at the Sooner Invitational. In a tight defensive game throughout, the Sooners got the only goal of the game early in the second half to end the Mean Green’s six-game winning streak.

“This was a game that could have gone either way. I’m very proud of the way that the girls played, they put it all out there and gave tremendous effort,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “We played with them the entire night and had our chances, but give them credit, they are a great team’.

The only goal of the game came in the 58th minute of play when Whitney Palmer scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Sooners the 1-0 lead.

North Texas peppered the Sooners goalkeeper Tara MacDonald all night as she made six saves in the game, facing 12 Mean Green shots.

The trio of Heather Hutyra, Kendall Juett, and Janaye Woods combined for 10 of the 12 North Texas shots.

Goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made four saves on the night as she faced 18 Oklahoma shots.
