CINCINNATI, Ohio (9/20/09) - Despite outshooting the Xavier Musketeers 18-5 and 8-4 SOG, the Mean Green soccer team was plagued by their inability to push one goal across and dropped their third straight contest by a score of 1-0 Sunday afternoon.
North Texas (4-4) has now been shutout in a three consecutive games and has not scored a goal in any of their four losses this season. The Mean Green was shutout only three times the entire 2008 season.
"It's frustrating but when you have a young team you're going to go through some growing pains and inconsistent play," North Texas head coach John Hedlund said. "Once again we dominated our opponent on shots and corners and simply could not finish. We have to learn to put team away. Hopefully the team that beat Texas Tech and Baylor will show up for conference play."
The game's lone goal came off the foot of Xavier's Leslie Boersma 13 minutes into the contest on a shot from 20 yards out to beat North Texas goalkeeper Mandy Hall.
Kendall Juett, Kelli Lunsford and Kelsey Perlman all had three shots a piece for the Mean Green.
North Texas will look to get back to their winning ways next weekend when they open up Sun Belt play in homes games against Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM.
