Holden Earns Second C-USA Player Of The Week Award In Four Weeks
Hat Trick Gives Freshman Holden Another C-USA Weekly Award
DENTON, Texas – Rachel Holden did it again. The freshman posted another hat trick, this time in the (ORV) North Texas soccer team’s 5-0 win at Oklahoma, and was once again named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Holden notched her 7th, 8th and 9th goals of the season on Sunday at OU, which gave her a second hat trick in eight collegiate games. The Lancaster, Texas, native is now tied atop the C-USA scoring lead, and leads the conference with three game-winning goals.
She started her career with a hat trick in the opener at Texas Southern, which earned Holden her first C-USA weekly honor on Aug. 26. Only North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Christy Johnson had more goals in her first two collegiate games (10) than Holden (4).
North Texas has been represented in three of the four C-USA Player of the Week releases this season. Goalkeeper Haley Riley earned Defensive Player of the Week honors last Monday.
Holden and the Mean Green continue their run at the Big 12 this week at No. 10 Baylor on Friday and at home against (ORV) Oklahoma State on Sunday.
