Junior Brittany Cleveland had a monster weekend with five goals in two games, including two-game winning goals and 10 points in two games. She was named to the Holiday Inn Classic all-tournament team for her efforts. Cleveland notched her second career hat trick with four goals in the win over Lamar and became the first player since Marilyn Marin in 2003 to score four goals in a game for North Texas.
In the second game, Cleveland scored the game-winning goal over Northwestern State with 10 minutes to play. She has already eclipsed her career-high for goals in a season with six through the first four games.
The Mean Green had five players named to the Holiday Express all-tournament team. Brittany Cleveland, Heather Hutyra, Kandice Ellis, Gennifer Hurst, and Janaye Woods all were named to the all-tournament team.
North Texas has tied its best start in school history at 4-0. The Mean Green has been 4-0 on three different occasions prior to this year and a look back shows that it has been an offensive barrage that has powered North Texas to its great starts. In 1996 NT averaged 6.75 goals through four games, in 2002 3.75, in 2004 5.00 goals, and this season its 4 goals a game.
