DENTON, Texas (9/11/08) The Mean Green soccer team will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend with what will now be a two-game homestand at the North Texas Soccer Field. Sunday’s contest against Lamar, which was originally scheduled to be played in Beaumont, will now be played at North Texas at 1 p.m. pending weather conditions.
First and foremost though, North Texas (3-1) will take on East Tennessee State (2-1) Friday evening at 7 p.m. It is the first time in school history that the two teams will meet.
The Mean Green are coming off a tough 1-0 home loss to UTSA, only the fifth home loss in the last nine seasons for John Hedlund and his squad. Despite struggling to score, North Texas outshot the Roadrunners 17-7 and on the season have outshot their opponents 61-23.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers last played at home against Vanderbilt and were blanked 3-0. Thus far they have struggled to score as well, netting only three goals on 45 shots in 2008.
North Texas defeated Lamar 8-0 last season thanks in part to four goals from Brittany Cleveland. The Cardinals lost 3-1 to Louisiana-Lafayette in their previous match and are currently 1-3 on the season.
The first 50 fans to show up for Friday evening’s game against ETSU will receive a North Texas soccer t-shirt. Following this weekend North Texas will be on the road for until their Oct. 3 game against Florida Atlantic.
