LINCOLN, Neb. (9/10/06) No 22 ranked USC scored two first half goals to slip by the North Texas (2-2-1) women’s soccer team 2-0 in the final game of the Nebraska Adidas Invitational.
“They are a really talented team, but I was proud of our effort and the way we went out and competed against them,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “Playing this type of competition is going to help us down the road this season”.
USC (4-1-1) began things early as Nina Loucks scored 97 seconds into the match off a cross from Amy Rodriguez to make it 1-0.
The Trojans added to the lead in the 18th minute of play when Rodriguez scored on a rebound to make it 2-0 USC.
Heather Hutyra and Kristen Campbell had three shots apiece for North Texas, but the combination of Veronica Simonton and Brittany Massro kept the Mean Green off the board.
USC out-shot the Mean Green 17-10 in the match. North Texas goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made three saves in the game.
North Texas is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at home against Texas Woman’s University.
