Kerestine Named C-USA Goalkeeper Of The Week
Mean Green Defense Recorded Two Shutouts
DENTON -- The North Texas soccer team returned to winning ways last weekend, picking up two 3-0 victories. The Mean Green defense collected two more shutouts, leading to a Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week honor for Jackie Kerestine.
"Jackie made a few big saves over the weekend that were key for us on getting both wins," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "The chemistry between her and the defense seems to be getting better each day which is why you're starting to see some of these shutouts."
The senior posted a combined shutout with freshman Brooke Bradley in the win at Abilene Christian before collecting a solo clean sheet against Houston. Kerestine recorded seven total saves in the two games. She did not make a save until the 64th minute against Houston, but it was a great one. UH's Claire Salazar slid past the Mean Green defense and found herself with an open look at the North Texas goal. Kerestine came out to make a diving stop on the shot. The defensive stop was also Kerestine's 300th career save.
Kerestine is the first goalkeeper at North Texas to join the 300-save club and also the 50-win club. For her career, she has now recorded 303 saves and 52 wins.
This is Kerestine's second C-USA Player of the Week accolade this season (Aug. 24) and the sixth of her career.
North Texas returns to action this weekend when it faces Lamar at home on Friday, Sept. 11 and then plays TCU on the road on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm.
