North Texas soccer will be without goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine for the remainder of the fall after the junior suffered a season-ending injury during Sunday's game against Virginia Tech.
The team will now be in the capable hands of sophomore Haley Riley, who has allowed just three goals in eight career appearances for the Mean Green. Riley has won both of her career starts for North Texas, including last month's season opener at Texas Southern, and played 31 scoreless minutes in the NCAA Tournament game against Texas Tech.
"I feel for Jackie because she was off to another great season and played such a major role for us a year ago, winning both titles and going on to the NCAA's," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "We will now have to adjust to not having her back there, but Haley will step in and I'm sure she will do a fine job."
Kerestine, the 2012 Sun Belt Tournament MVP, is the program's career leader in goals against average at 0.89. She ranks sixth in program history with 179 career saves, and her 17 career shutouts are second only to Mandy Hall's 22.
Hedlund, Riley and the Mean Green will play at home Friday against Sam Houston State, and will face TCU in Fort Worth at noon on Sunday. Fox Sports Southwest will carry Sunday's game against the Horned Frogs live.
