Jackie Moreau and the Mean Green took No. 7 Wake Forest to double-overtime on Friday.

North Texas went toe-to-toe with the nation’s best this weekend, and proved they belong in the discussion for a spot in the NSCAA Top 25 rankings. Coaches around the nation didn’t disagree, as the Mean Green entered the national rankings in “Others Receiving Votes” for the first time this season.

The Mean Green took No. 10 Wake Forest to double-overtime on Friday before a 105th minute Demon Deacon free-kick goal. On Sunday, NT scored back-to-back second-half goals to tie the score at two apiece against Virginia Tech until the Hokies notched the game-winner.

"Obviously it stings a bit losing on a late goal in double overtime against the No. 10 team in the country," Hedlund said following the defeat on Friday. "But the bottom line is we showed how good we are tonight, and why we should be ranked in the top 25 nationally."

NT head coach John Hedlund has preached about the depth on his squad this year, and it was evident this weekend. A total of 21 players saw action in Sunday’s game against Virginia Tech.

You’ll have a couple of chances to catch theMean Green this weekend. NT will take on Sam Houston State at home on Friday at 7 p.m., and will head to Fort Worth to take on TCU on Sunday at noon. The game against TCU will be shown on Fox Sports Southwest.
