Soccer's Holden Named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week
Freshman Earns CUSA Weekly Honor After Four-Goal Weekend
North Texas soccer freshman Rachel Holden started her career with a bang - a hat trick in her first collegiate game, followed by the game-winning goal in her second. Holden's weekend caught the attention of Conference USA, which named the forward their Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The Lancaster, Texas, native became the first freshman to open her career with a hat trick since her teammate Kelsey Hodges in 2010, and just the fourth overall. Only North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Christy Johnson had more goals in her first two collegiate games (10) than Holden (4).
"Rachel really had a fantastic weekend, and we are all really excited to watch her blossom this season," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "Her speed and her ability to get open makes her a very potent target, and her finishing skills have been excellent. This is a well-deserved honor for a player that has the potential to be pretty special for us."
North Texas soccer will take its 2-0 record to Winston Salem, N.C. this weekend to take on No. 15 Wake Forest on Friday and (ORV) Virginia Tech on Sunday.
