Holden Receives C-USA Offensiver Player of the Week Honor
Sophomore Forward Tallied Two Game-Winning Goals
DENTON - North Texas soccer player Rachel Holden started her sophomore season just like her she began her freshman campaign, by scoring goals. The forward was named the Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week for the two game-winning goals she tallied this past weekend.
The Lancaster, Texas, native scored the team's first goal of the season in the 3-0 victory against Texas Southern and then had the gamewinner against Oregon State.
I'm really happy for Rachel," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "In the big games, when we need her the most, she always seems to come through. Rachel had a solid weekend, and the Oregon State game really looked like it was headed to OT until she beat the defender down the left side and slipped it past the goalkeeper."
As a freshman, Holden was named C-USA's Offensive Player of the Week after the first two games of the season as well. She recorded a hat trick in her first collegiate game, followed by the game-winning goal in her second. Holden went on to receive two player of the week awards in her freshman year.
Holden and the Mean Green return to action this weekend when they play Houston and Lamar on the road.
