DENTON, Tex. (8/25/07) Not this time for the North Texas Alumni. The Mean Green women’s soccer team avenged its loss last year to the all-star cast of alumni for a 12-2 win Friday night at the North Texas Soccer Field.
Eight different players scored goals for North Texas in its only tune-up before the regular season begins. Newcomer Christie Stewart had a huge night for the Mean Green with a hat trick, three assists, and she ended the game with nine points.
Freshman Lindsay Lackore started things off for the North Texas 97 seconds into the match with a goal from 15 yards out.
Six minutes later freshman Janaye Woods scored her goal on loose ball on the right side to make it 2-0 North Texas. Sophomore Kendal Juett, who two goals on the night, extended the lead to 3-0 as she rifled one home from 20 yards out on the right side.
The Alumni battled back with the next goals, capped off when former Mean Green player and current TWU head coach Fluer Benatar got behind the defense for the tally.
North Texas regained control of the game quickly with as Stewart notched her first goal of the night. Heather Hutyra gave North Texas a 5-2 lead just before the break with a goal. The Mean Green cruised in the second half scoring six second half goals. Stewart had two goals and two second half assists for the Mean Green. Hutyra had five points on the night while Woods had four points.
North Texas begins the regular season on Friday, August 31 with a home match against cross-town rival TWU.
