The Mean Green returns seven starters from last year’s team that advanced to the Conference USA Championship game. Rachel Holden, last year’s C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, returns for her sophomore season. Her and junior Amber Haggerty were named this week to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s top 20 player rankings in C-USA. Holden, Haggerty and junior Karla Pineda combined for 22 of NT’s goals last year.
Junior Jackie Kerestine is back in goal for the Mean Green after sitting out most of the 2013 season with a knee injury. She was named the Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP in 2012 and named to the SBC All-Tournament Team in 2011. Kerestine and junior Tess Graham will anchor a young defense. North Texas lost three starters from last year’s defense.
North Texas head coach John Hedlund
returns for his 20th season at the helm of the Mean Green. He has coached the Mean Green to 19 straight winning season. Hedlund enters the 2014 season ranked 21st among active Division I coaches nationwide with a .701 winning percentage.
