Hodges Named SBC Defensive Player of the Week

DENTON, Texas (8/21/12) - North Texas soccer junior Kelsey Hodges was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference, the league announced Tuesday.

Hodges scored the Mean Green's first goal of the season on Friday in a 2-1 double-overtime win against Oral Roberts, and scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of North Texas' 1-0 win over Missouri State on Sunday. Her 193 minutes played in the two games combined was the most playing time by a North Texas player.

The Denton, Texas native was named Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the league after scoring a conference-leading seven goals among SBC defenders last season.

North Texas (2-0-0) will visit Sam Houston State (1-1-0) on Fri., August 21, and will play its first home game on Sun., August 23, against the Houston Cougars.
