DENTON - For the first time in over 15 years, the Mean Green soccer team has a set of sisters on the squad.

Freshman Logan Bruffett joins her sister, Lauryn, on the field this season. The Bruffett sisters and the Mean Green open the 2017 season on Friday night against Incarnate Word in San Antonio. North Texas is coming off a 15-win season and a third-straight Conference USA regular-season title.

Logan is one of 11 new faces on the Mean Green team this season. Seven true freshmen and four transfers joined North Texas in 2017, including sophomore Natalie Newell and redshirt freshman Caroline Paulette who transferred this past spring.

Logan will look to make impact with the defense. Most of the Mean Green's defense remains intact from last season. Senior Tori Phillips and junior Carissa Sanders will return to the central defense, and sophomore Dominique James brings more experience after starting 15 games at outside back last year. North Texas has two experience goalkeepers in junior Brooke Bradley and sophomore Miranda Schoening.

Lauryn was a newcomer last year after transferring from Mississippi State. She started nine games in 2016 and scored three games. The junior will help pace the midfield in 2017.

After opening the season on the road, North Texas faces a tough test at home. The Mean Green will play No. 17 Arkansas in their home opener. North Texas lost to the Razorbacks last year, 1-0, on the road.
