NEW ORLEANS, La. (North Texas) - North Texas junior midfielder Ellen Scarfone and sophomore defender Kelsey Hodges were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team, the league announced Wednesday. Scarfone was a 2010 All-Sun Belt pick, while Hodges led North Texas with 9 goals in 2010. The team was selected by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
Scarfone led North Texas in points in 2010, scoring seven goals and helping on nine others. Her nine assists tied her for sixth on North Texas' single-season list and had her ranked 38th in the nation in assists per game.
Hodges led North Texas with nine goals in 2010, including two hat tricks. She became the first Mean Green player since 1997 to open her career with a hat trick, as she performed the feat against Texas Southern. She scored goals in three straight games during the middle of conference play, and became one of the Mean Green's most versitale players, filling in at defender, where she will play this season.
In the team poll, the Mean Green were picked to finish fourth, just two points behind Middle Tennessee. Two of the three teams ranked above North Texas come to the Mean Green Soccer Complex this season.
