DENTON, Texas - Junior Amber Haggerty scored two goals to lead the yellow team to a 2-0 victory against the grey squad in a North Texas intrasquad scrimmage on Friday night at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
"I saw a lot of positives from both sides," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "It was a hard-fought game, very competitive on both sides. We are ready to get started next week."
The Mean Green team split up into two squads and played each other in a friendly scrimmage prior to its season opener next Friday against Texas Southern.
Haggerty scored both goals in the opening 10 minutes of the contest and neither team found the back of the net the rest of the way. Sophomore Rachel Holden recorded the assist on the opening goal in the sixth minute.
Haggerty scored her second goal unassisted in the 10th minute of the play. Goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, played the first half and made one save.
