Mean Green Soccer Hosting Intrasquad Scrimmage On Friday

Aug. 12, 2015

DENTON - The North Texas soccer team is hosting an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.

The 29-player Mean Green team will split up into two squads and will play each other in a full 90-minute game. The scrimmage will act as tune-up to the Mean Green's season opener on Friday, Aug. 21 against Southern Utah in the Las Vegas Invitational.

The Mean Green is bringing back most of its squad back from a 2014 record-breaking season, when the team tied a program record with 16 wins, set a single-season record with 14 shutouts and claimed its ninth conference championship with the regular-season Conference USA title.

Senior goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine, senior midfielder Karla Pineda and junior forward Rachel Holden were all selected to the C-USA preseason team. This was the second-straight year that Holden was honored and the second time in Kerestine's career that she was voted to the team. Kerestine was the only goalkeeper to make the list. Pineda made her debut on the preseason team.

The 2014 North Texas team has a lot of new faces: nine newcomers and one transfer have been added to the mix. After eight days of preseason, head coach John Hedlund will be able to gauge his team's progress with the scrimmage on Friday.
