Mean Green Soccer Makes Coaching Changes
Hedlund Adds Benatar And Clayes To Staff
DENTON - John Hedlund has made a few changes to his Mean Green coaching staff as the North Texas soccer program begins preparations for its 21st season.
Fleur Benatar joins the staff as the director of operations, while coaches Martin Clayes and Matt Montayne are switching positions.
Benatar is a former Mean Green player (1996-97) and assistant coach (2000-01). She played for Hedlund on one of his first teams and was a part of the Mean Green's first conference title in 2001. She later went on to start the TWU women's soccer program and was the head coach there from 2002-13.
Clayes begins his first season as an assistant coach after serving as a volunteer during the 2014 season. Clayes brings an assortment of coaching experience to the Mean Green, including 10 years spent at the collegiate level.
Montayne will continue to serve as the team's goalkeeping coach but on a volunteer basis. He recently took a full-time position in the dental field. Montayne has been with the Mean Green for the last five years.
Daniel Dobson will continue in his role as Hedlund's first assistant. Dobson has been with the North Texas program for the last three years.
North Texas opens its season on the road when it faces Southern Utah on Friday, Aug. 21 in Las Vegas, Nev.
