Throwback Thursday: Mean Green Soccer Winning The 2015 Conference USA Tournament

June 9, 2016

It’s Throwback Thursday and the first of the Mean Green summer series where MeanGreenSports.com takes a look back at all of the highlights from 2015-16 Mean Green Athletics school year.

The first highlight comes from Mean Green soccer and their record-breaking season. North Texas captured its first Conference USA tournament championship last November after winning the regular-season conference championship for the second year in a row.

North Texas played in its third straight C-USA championship game and finally broke through with the victory off a goal by senior Amber Haggerty in the 1-0 win against Marshall.

With the tournament title, the Mean Green advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2012. The championship season came to a close with a 1-0 loss to Texas Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Mean Green soccer team continued its winning tradition in 2015 with its 21st winning season. The program has won 11 conference championships in its history. Head coach John Hedlund has been at the helm of the Mean Green all 21 years and has posted a career record of 299-115-26.

Stay tuned for another Mean Green highlight next Thursday.
