Soccer Releases 2012 Schedule

DENTON, Texas - North Texas soccer released its 2012 schedule on Tuesday, bringing a slate of nine home games as the Mean Green try to defend its Sun Belt title. The schedule includes games against regional powers Houston, Baylor, Oklahoma State and TCU, along with the Mean Green's final Sun Belt Conference campaign.

"This roster will be completely different from last year's championship team, with 12 of our 24 players this year on our roster will be wearing the Mean Green uniform for the first time," said head coach John Hedlund. "Starting the year out playing perennial powers such as Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, Baylor, Houston and TCU in non-conference play should really prepare this very young team for the Sun Belt Conference during the second half of our season."

The Mean Green start the season on August 17 at Oral Roberts, opening the season for the second straight season against the Golden Eagles. The three-game road swing to start the year includes games at Missouri State and Sam Houston State.

The home opener at the Mean Green Soccer Complex is on Sunday, August 26 at 1 p.m. against Houston, who the Mean Green beat 1-0 in 2011.

North Texas faces its toughest stretch of the season from Sept. 7-14, as it takes on three teams that advanced in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Baylor, who made the Round of 32 in the 2011 tournament, travels to Denton to face the Mean Green on Sept. 7. The swing continues on Sept. 9 with a neutral site game at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas, as North Texas faces No. 14 Long Beach State, who went 18-6-1 and made the Elite 8 in 2011.

After facing Long Beach State, the Mean Green travel to Stillwater, Okla. on Sept. 14 to face another Elite 8 participant, No. 5 Oklahoma State. The Mean Green are 2-0-0 all-time against the Cowgirls.

The non-conference slate ends on Sept. 16 with a Metroplex rivalry renewed for the first time since 1996, as TCU comes to the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

The Mean Green start its last Sun Belt Conference season, before moving to Conference USA in 2013, on Sept. 21 at Louisiana-Lafayette.

North Texas hosts Middle Tennessee on Oct. 18, marking the last Sun Belt Conference game to ever be played at the Mean Green Soccer Complex. The Mean Green closes out its 12-year run in the Sun Belt Conference at Western Kentucky on Oct. 21.

The Mean Green then have 10 days off before the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, hosted by South Alabama from Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

Mean Green Olympic Sports Passes, which provides admission to all home soccer, volleyball and softball events, are available at the Mean Green ticket office for $50 for adults and $30 for children 17 and under.
