North Texas Recruiting Class Named Best In The SBC

DENTON, Texas (5/15/08) The North Texas women’s soccer recruiting class of 2008 has been named the best in the Sun Belt Conference by Soccer Buzz Magazine. The Mean Green landed five players among the top 500 and were listed as the program on the rise by the magazine.

“I’m very excited about the 2008 recruiting class.  I feel we recruited some of the top players out of the state of Texas and all of them should help our continue success here at North Texas on winning conference championships and the goal to play in the NCAA Tournament,” said North Texas coach John Hedlund.

Incoming recruit Kara Brooks picked another accolade as she was named the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Player of the Year.  Brooks was also named to the Dallas Morning News All-Area first team.

Brooks had 33 goals and 14 assists for L.D. Bell and was named the District 7-5A Player of the Year for the second straight season. In her four years at L.D. Bell she scored 89 goals.

North Texas returns 14 letterwinners from last year's team that won 15 games, including reining Sun Belt Freshman of the Year in Janaye Woods.

The Mean Green is the host of the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Tournament this season for the first time in school history.
