Soccer Announces 2015 Fall Schedule

John Hedlund enters his 21st season as the North Texas head coach
May 12, 2015

DENTON -- North Texas soccer coach John Hedlund has announced the Mean Green's 2015 fall schedule, which features contests against Kansas, TCU and Texas A&M.

The Mean Green is bringing most of its squad back from a 2014 record-breaking season, when the team tied a program record with 16 wins, set a single-season record with 14 shutouts and claimed its ninth conference championship with the regular-season title.

"Obviously it's a very competitive schedule, highlighted with Big 12 power Kansas, last year's NCAA semi-finalist Texas A&M and area rival TCU," said Hedlund. "Last year, we played a tough non-conference schedule as well and it brought us the regular-season title, so we're hoping another strong schedule this year will help us defend our title."

The 2015 campaign kicks off on the road and outside Texas for only the fourth time in school history with games against Utah and UNLV on the campus of the Rebels.

The Mean Green opens its home schedule against Kansas on Sunday, Aug. 30. The Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, finishing with a 15-6 record. North Texas has a rematch with TCU on Sunday, Sept. 13, in Fort Worth. The Mean Green fell to the Horned Frogs, 1-0, last year at home. The last time that the Mean Green played TCU in Fort Worth, North Texas won, 3-0.

Before opening its conference season, North Texas travels to College Station to face Texas A&M on Sept. 20. North Texas has not faced the Aggies since 2001. Texas A&M advanced to the 2014 College Cup Final Four.

NT will begin its Conference USA title hunt at Marshall on Sept. 25, then returns home to face Florida Atlantic and FIU. The Mean Green's only regular-season conference loss came at the hands of the Owls last year.

North Texas will also face Middle Tennessee and UAB at home. The Mean Green defeated the Blue Raiders in the semifinals of last year's Conference USA Tournament and is facing UAB for the first time in school history.

One of the most anticipated home games will be a rematch of the conference championship game, when the Mean Green plays a night game against Rice on Sunday, Oct. 25th.
