DENTON (3/12/03) -- The University of North Texas has announced its 2003 soccer schedule, which is highlighted by a school-record 12 home games. The Mean Green will open the season on the road with two games in Waco against Houston on August 29 and then a battle with Baylor on August 31.
North Texas begins their home schedule on September 3 against Southwest Texas. Highlighting the non-conference schedule for the Mean Green at home are games with Texas Tech, Rice, and Houston.
"This year's schedule presents a real challenge. I am really hoping our strong non-conference schedule prepares the team for another conference title," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund.
The Mean Green also have non-conference road games with Metroplex rival SMU and a contest with national power Notre Dame in South Bend on September 28.
North Texas opens up Sun Belt Conference play on October 3 against Arkansas State. The Mean Green host the defending conference champion Denver Pioneers in a marquee match-up on October 10. North Texas closes out the season on the road against Florida International.
The 2003 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held November 5-8 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Mean Green are coming off a 14-5-1 season and return the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Marilyn Marin, who also led the nation in points and goals last season.
