Hedlund Adds Class Of Nine To Mean Green Soccer

Head coach John Hedlund has won 264 career games and led North Texas to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

DENTON, Texas - Fresh off a trip to the Conference USA finals in its first year in the league, North Texas soccer and head coach John Hedlund has signed nine players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Mean Green.

"Losing a strong group of seniors that won multiple championships throughout their career is never easy to replace, but I do feel with this class coming in we have several that can make an immediate impact this coming fall - with a few having the potential to start their freshman year," Hedlund said. "We will be young but very talented and should be an exciting team to watch throughout the year."

The Mean Green returns the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, Rachel Holden, as well as six other starters from the 2013 season.

• Libby Murphy | MF | Solar ECNL | McKinney Boyd HS
An All-District 10-5A selection in 2013, Murphy has been a member of the Solar Chelsea Soccer Club ECNL since 2008 and was a three-sport athlete - soccer, cross country and basketball - at McKinney Boyd High School. She has been selected to be a member of the North Texas '96 Region III State First Team every year since joining Solar. As a freshman at McKinney Boyd, Murphy helped the team to a 5A state title in 2011. She was named to the National Elite Prep Showcase All-Tournament team, and currently has McKinney Boyd ranked No. 7 in Texas according to StudenSports.com.

• Cat Sebazco | FW | Solar ECNL | Keller Timber Creek HS
Sebazco earned honorable mention all-state recognition from the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches last year at Timber Creek High School, and has been named to the All-District first team for the past three years. She also scored the first hat trick in the program's history on Jan. 13, 2011.



Sebazco was on the Solar Chelsea Soccer Club ECNL since 2010 and was second on her team in goals scored during the U17 2012-2013 regular season, with eight goals and two assists.  She has two goals during the team's playoffs and finals.

• Hailey Hadden | Solar ECNL | Frisco Liberty HS
Hadden was a defender for the Solar Chelsea Soccer Club ECNL and played in 27 games during the 2013 regular season. She helped lead the team to International Cup Championships in 2011 and 2013.

She was a captain for the Liberty High School soccer team and was voted defensive MVP. Hadden has been named to the First Team All-District 18-4A team in each of the last three seasons. She was voted freshman of the year and district newcomer of the year in 2011.

• Chelsei Soto | FW | Dallas Texans ECNL | Lewisville HS
Soto is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 42 player in Texas according to TopDrawerSoccer.com. She was named to the 2014 Girls IMG Academy 150 Player Pool, and is the top goal scorer for the '96 Dallas Texans ECNL squad. Soto notched seven goals and eight assists in the 2011-2012 season and nine goals and four assists in the 2012-2013 season.

Soto also ran track in high school and was named team MVP for the Lady Farmers' varsity soccer squad.

• Rebecca Gleason | D | Dallas Sting ECNL | Lucas Lovejoy HS
Gleason is rated as a three-star player by TopDrawerSoccer.com, and has been selected to the All-District 21-4A first team in 2011 and 2012. Coached by former Dallas Sidekicks legend, Tatu, at the Dallas Sting ECNL, Gleason was a standout on the back line. Prior to joining the Sting, Gleason was on the FC Dallas ECNL club, where she scored one goal in 13 games played with the U17 team.

An accomplished cross country runner, Gleason was a part of two Lovejoy state titles in 2010 and 2011, which included individual top 10 finishes for Gleason in the state meet.

• Kelci Slaughter | MF | Andromeda FC | Granbury HS
Slaughter, the captain of the Granbury High School soccer team, earned First-Team All-District 15-4A honors after both her junior and senior seasons in helping the Lady Pirates win back-to-back district titles. In 2011, she was named the district's Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

Earlier this month, the Granbury Lady Pirates placed second in the West Texas Shootout and Slaughter was named to the all-tournament team. As a member of the Andromeda FC U18 Soccer Club for the 2013-2014 season, Slaughter scored four goals and had one assist..

• Tori Phillips | D | Mustangs FC
Phillips is a standout for the Dallas Home School Athletic Association soccer team, where she helped them claim the 2012 national title and 2013 runner up finish. She was named HSAA offensive MVP in 2013 and was an Honorable Mention All-American in basketball last year as well.

• Bryson Thomas | D | Dallas Sting West | L.D. Bell HS
Thomas earned a four-star rating by TopDrawerSoccer.com, who labeled the L.D. Bell standout a "difference maker at the next level" and a "Dallas Best XI" following the TDS Combines in Dallas last January. The Hurst, Texas, native is on the Dallas Sting West Royal 96 club team, and is also a versatile point guard for the Elite Elevation basketball club.

• Dani Mayfield | GK/D | Midlothian HS
Mayfield, a standout keeper at Midlothian, was named first-team All-District 7-5A and Honorable Mention All-State by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches last season, and is projected as a keeper and defender for the Mean Green. She led the Panthers to a second place district finish and a win over Temple in the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs.

Mayfield also competed on the varsity track and field team in high school, in the 100-meter hurdles, discuss throw and shot put events.
