Soccer Signs Ten
North Texas Soccer announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters #$%^of Intent on Wednesday, and the addition of a transfer. The Mean Green lose six #$%^seniors from its 2011 Sun Belt Champion squad.
"It was very important to bring in a strong class for this year," said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. "When you lose six quality seniors and are coming off a championship season, the goal must be to bring in several players that can make an immediate impact. I truly feel we have done that with the 2012 class, making the future very bright."
Paige Bucklew is a defender from Denton who goes to Guyer High School and plays club for ECNL Sting ‘94. She was named First Team All-District 11-4A in 2010, and named varsity Utility player of the Year. She was a 2009 Second Team All-District 11-4A selection. A versatile athlete, Bucklew also lettered in volleyball.
Amanda Burgardt is a forward, transferring to North Texas from SMU. She was second on the squad with four goals for the Mustangs in 2010 as a freshman, including game-winners against Southern Miss and East Carolina. Coming out of high school, she was ranked as the No. 54 recruit in the nation and No. 9 in Texas by TopDrawerSoccer.com. She has previously trained with the Under-15 United States National Team. She will be a junior for the 2012 season.
Tess Graham is a defender from Denton who goes to Guyer High School and plays club for ECNL Sting ‘94. Graham was a member of the Sting '94 team that was a Region III Quarterfinalist in 2010. She also lettered in volleyball.
Molly Grisham is a midfielder from Longview High School and plays club for ECNL Sting ‘94. TopDrawerSoccer.com rates Grisham as a three-star recruit. She is a two-time first-team all-district selection, and was named Second Team All-Texas by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches in 2010. Except during high school soccer season, she travels from Longview to the Metroplex multiple times per week to play soccer. She was twice a member of the Texas Olympic Development Program team.
Amber Haggerty is a forward from Mesquite, Texas who goes to Dallas Christian School and plays club for ECNL D'Feeters '95. She was named First Team All-District 2-4A (TAPPS) and named Second Team All-State in 2009-10. She has been a member of the Olympic Development Program pool for the North Texas region. Also a sprinter, she was named MVP of her high school's track team.
Lindsey Hulstein is a defender from Denton who goes to Guyer High School and plays club for ECNL Sting ‘94. She has been a member of the state pool for the Olympic Development Program from 2005-09, and participated in the 2008 Region III ODP camp in Birmingham, Ala.
Jackie Moreau is a midfielder from Coppell, Texas who goes to Coppell High School and plays club for ECNL Sting ‘94. She was named District 7-5A Newcomer of the Year in 2011. Moreau was twice named MVP of her club team, earning those honors from ASG in 2006 and 2009. She was a member of the Sting '94 team that was a Region III Quarterfinalist in 2010.
Gabi Ortiz is a midfielder from Austin, Texas who goes to McNeil High School and plays club for Lonestar SC. TopDrawerSoccer.com rates Ortiz as a three-star recruit. She was named Second Team All-District 16-5A as a junior in 2011.
Karla Pineda is a forward from Aldine High School and plays club for Houston Pride. She was named District 19-5A Offensive MVP as a freshman in 2009. She was named a Player to Watch by the Houston Chronicle after the 2011 regular season, in which she scored 50 goals and assisted on 13 others.
Haley Riley is a goalkeeper from Allen, Texas, who played club for Texas Spirit '94. She lettered for Allen High School in 2011. Riley is coached by renowned SMU and North Texas Olympic Development Program goalkeeper coach Joe Waggoner. An excellent student, Riley had a 4.0 GPA at Allen High School.
