Spring Soccer Slate Has NT Hosting Two Big 12 Squads, SMU
Five Metroplex Showdowns Against Regional Rivals Await Mean Green
DENTON - Fresh off a trip to the Conference USA finals in their first year in the league, John Hedlund and the North Texas soccer team have announced their spring schedule, which features four Big 12 squads and cross-town rival SMU.
The Mean Green will host Oklahoma (March 8), Baylor (April 11) and SMU (April 18), as well as a local road trip to TCU (March 23) and a neutral-site game against Texas (April 5) at Southlake's Dragon Stadium.
North Texas downed OU, 5-0, and TCU, 2-0, on the road during a four-match win streak in the 2013 season. Freshman Rachel Holden, who would go on to earn C-USA Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Region accolades, scored a combined four goals in those two games.
The Mean Green and the Longhorns last met in the 2004 NCAA Tournament, while Baylor and NT played to a 0-0 tie in 2012. The two were slated to meet in 2013 but weather forced its cancellation.
North Texas won the last regular-season meeting with SMU (2-1, in 2011 in Denton) and last spring's match in Dallas, 1-0.
