Mean Green Welcomes Back Slavonic As Assistant Coach

DENTON, Texas (1/21/09) Former North Texas women’s soccer standout and captain Dani Slavonic is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach under head coach John Hedlund and the Mean Green.

"I am so excited to back at North Texas and part of the soccer program again," Slovanic said on Wednesday. "This program is very close to my heart and I am so proud to be a part of it. The team had a great fall season and I am looking forward to seeing that carried over to the spring season as we play some talented teams."

Slavonic played four seasons (2004-07) with the North Texas and is the all-time leader in both games played and started (90). The four-year letterwinner played an integral role in helping the Mean Green capture Sun Belt Conference championships in both 2004 and 2005 and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament both seasons. During that period North Texas compiled a record of 32-10-3.

“Dani brings to the program a wealth of success and a winning attitude having won multiple conference titles along with NCAA tournament appearances while playing here at UNT,” North Texas head coach John Hedlund said. “Her success as a player, team captain, and role model will be a tremendous benefit for current and future players here at North Texas.”

The midfielder from Carrolton, Texas was selected first team All-Sun Belt in 2007 and was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament team all four seasons. In the 2006 season she scored a career-best five goals, tied for second on the team.

At Creekview High School Slavonic was named the 8-5A Midfielder MVP and was selected to the first-team all-district in 2003 and in 2004 won the state championship and was named second-team all-area. In 2002 she was selected as the 6-5A CO-MVP and during that season led her team in scoring.
