DENTON -- The North Texas soccer team went 80 minutes without scoring a goal, but then found the back of the net three times in four minutes to break the game wide open, leading to 3-0 win against UAB on Sunday afternoon.

"It took us a while to finally get our offense going today but credit UAB, their defense played well throughout the match and their goalkeeper made some really nice saves," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "I'm happy to get the win; we will take off tomorrow and get ready for another tough weekend."

The scarcity of goals by the Mean Green early on was not due to lack of shots. North Texas finished with 30 shots, the second-highest total this season. Taylor Torres had the most dangerous shot in the first half, hitting the crossbar in the 25th minute. The freshman forward led the team with seven shots and finally found the back of the net in the 85th minute with the team's third goal.

Torres also had the assist on the first goal that broke the game open. The freshman had a low shot on goal that the UAB goalkeeper got her hands on but was unable to hold on to. Holden followed up the shot and sent the rebound into the back of the net in the 81st minute.

For the second straight game, North Texas capitalized on set-play opportunities. After a corner kick was sent in, Lindsey Hulstein sent the ball back into the box and Jackie Moreau finished the play with her first goal of the season. The Mean Green held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

With two games in one weekend, North Texas utilized its bench against the visiting team. The Mean Green made 13 substitutions, compared to just five in Friday's game.

The North Texas defense started a new streak with a shutout, its 12th of the season. North Texas goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine has posted 11 individual shutouts this season.
