Mean Green Soccer Picks Up Crucial Road Victory
North Texas Defeats UAB, 1-0
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The North Texas soccer team picked up a crucial road victory with a 1-0 win against UAB on Friday night at BBVA Compass Field.
With the win, North Texas moves back into a tie for first place in the conference standings. The Mean Green are tied with WKU and Rice with 15 points, but North Texas has played one less game than the Hilltoppers and the Owls.
The lone goal of the game came in the 13th minute off the foot of an UAB defender. Hailey Sutton crossed the ball into the 18-yard box, and a poor UAB clear put the ball in their own net for an own goal.
UAB finished with the shot advantage, but North Texas was more precise with its shots on goal. The Mean Green put seven of their nine shots on goal.
NT's best opportunity came in the 54th minute when Hailey Sutton had a nice look at goal from the right-hand side of the box. Her shot was saved by UAB goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty. Taylor Torres intercepted Daugherty's pass and tried to put a shot on goal, but the keeper made the diving save.
Next up for North Texas
North Texas returns home to face Charlotte and Old Dominion next weekend.
