TROY, Ala.- North Texas (8-5-1, 3-2 Sun Belt) defeated Troy (8-3-1, 3-2 Sun Belt) 3-1 on the strength of two Julie Lackey goals. North Texas is now riding a three-game winning streak in which it has scored three or more goals in every game.
Julie Lackey started the scoring for the Mean Green in the 15th minute with an unassisted goal.
Nikki Crocco added a goal in the 27th minute, good for her third of the season. Crocco has now scored in two straight games. Michelle Young picked up her second assist and 12th point of the season on the play.
Lackey added a goal in the 71st minute, giving her a multi-goal game for the second time this season. Lackey now leads the team with eight goals this season. Ellen Scarfone picked up her team-leading 7th assist of the season.
Troy scored in garbage time to cut the deficit to two goals. North Texas outshot the Trojans 9 to 4 and had twice as many corner kicks, earning six to Troy's three.
North Texas plays at South Alabama on Sunday, October 10, at 1 p.m. before returning home on Friday, October 15th to face FIU. Game time for the contest against FIU has been moved to 6 p.m. due to the homecoming bonfire.
