SAN ANTONIO - Juniors Karla Pineda and Jackie Moreau joined up for two goals to lead the North Texas soccer team to a 2-0 victory against UTSA on Sunday afternoon.

The Mean Green improved to 4-0 in conference play and takes the lead in the standings with 12 points. North Texas has not given up a goal in league play.

North Texas scored its earliest goal of the season when Moreau headed in a goal off a corner kick in the second minute of play. Pineda added an insurance goal in the 48th minute off a free kick.

Pineda, the team's free-kick specialist, picked up an assist when Moreau took charge on the team's first corner of the game, finding the back of the net with her head.

North Texas took advantage of a UTSA miscue at the start of the second half. The Mean Green was awarded an indirect free kick when the Roadrunner's goalkeeper picked up a pass from one of her defenders inside the box.

Moreau tapped the ball to Pineda who curved the ball around the wall for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Jackie Kerestine and the Mean Green defense earned their fourth straight shutout.

Next up for North Texas

• The win sets up a showdown next week with Rice, who sits in second place with nine points. The Mean Green faces Rice on the road on Sunday at 1 p.m.
